50's Highway Fountain, Laupahoehoe, Hawaii

The food is not the only thing that reminds you of the awesome 1950's, the owner is the biggest sweetheart on the planet. She hovers around making sure everything and everyone is just perfect and happy. The food is 50's diner fun and very delicious. Whether you are just stopping for a malt (yes a real malt) or a hamburger or the VERY delicious chicken and gravy you'll be happy you did.

The place itself is both a memorial of the 50's and old Hawaii as well. When you stop here also stop to see the Laupahoehoe Train Museum just down the road. If you're driving up the Hamakua Coast, stop and eat here.

I ate here again yesterday. The burger was very nice, the curly fries are what you'd expect, but the onion rings were a tad greasy upsetting my stomach later. Still, I topped it off with a piece of home baked apple pie and that brought a smile to my face. In fact, I was up in Waimea, where I normally eat at Village Burger. But I opted to drive down the coast and eat here and I was glad I did. I didn't see the wonderful owner, I hope she's still around.
