Rico Rico, Honolulu, Hawaii

Peruvian Rotisserie Chicken at its best. This small restaurant on King Street is a delight for true chicken lovers. The chicken was perfectly prepared and served in quarter, half and whole chicken meals. One real delight is the cole slaw that is served with the chicken. I'm not eating rice at the moment, but the brown rice is probably nice too. The coleslaw is not sweet, and goes perfectly with the chicken. It's a very nice combination. The first time I ate here I saw a small  container with the meal that I thought was mustard so I skipped it. Big mistake. Today I tried the little yellow pepper and mayo container and it's a very nice spicy blend that really sets off the chicken. Nicely done.

Dining is both indoors at tables and outdoors at a covered picnic table area. Free lemon water goes amazingly well with the meal. Most of all, the people there are so nice. They actually made me feel at home, a very nice surprise indeed. I've eaten here twice now. It won't be my last time.

Da Spot, Honolulu, Hawaii

Suitably named, Da Spot is the place to go for a delicious value meal in Honolulu. Fresh Mediterranean Cuisine in a serving buffet style environment. The food is delicious, the prices right, and you can even get some nice live music on the right days. I have eaten here a few times now, as it seems to fit my new Paleo diet. The servings are huge, particularly of the chicken. Many chickens died to feed me. The lamb, a couple bucks more, is wonderful and plentiful. It's some of the best lamb you can get on the island. They have a very nice array of healthy salads and sides. If smoothies are your thing the one I had was quite delicious. I highly recommend this place whether you're a local or a tourist looking for something outside the normal tourist sets of restaurants.

Brasserie du Gutenberg Potsdam

The bread with homemade tomato dip was quite nice. The French onion soup was good and the Coq au vin was surprisingly wonderful. Not only was the chicken moist and tasty but the melange of vegetables and potatoes was noteworthy. Ten for ten. This one gets my recommendation.

Das Krongut am Schloss Sanssouci, Potsdam, Germany

Blood sausage won the Cofrerie de Goute Boudin Knight of the Blood Sausages. Eh. It was good but pricey. I would give it 7 out of 10.  There is a King's Bakery on the same location. I wish I'd eaten there instead.

Strandhalle, Bremenhaven, Germany

This wonderful restaurant sits above the new harbor with a spectacular view. The food is wonderful particularly the large choices of cream filled cakes. A wonderful place to eat.

Mediterraneo Restaurant, Bremenhaven

The food was mediocre and the view sucked on the terrace but the service was fast so were not stuck there a long time.  Don't bother with this place. There is another much nicer place with a terrace, a view and very nice food within walking distance. Eat at Strandhalle.

Aioli, Bremen, Germany

If you find yourself in Northern Germany with a hankering for Spanish tapas this is definitely the place to eat. Located among the old fisherman's homes you can almost imagine you are eating in Cordoba with the old tall buildings blotting out the sun. The food was reall delicious. 10 stars

Bresson Cafe Brasserie Francais, Utrecht, Netherlands

Excellent food in a great location on the Oudegracht. The lamb, beef and crepes were all wonderfully cooked and the sauces were very tasty. For this qualit of restaurant the price was quite reasonable. The one negative about the place was the terrible service. When I asked for a White Russian cocktail they told me they couldn't make it. I looked over at the bar and pointed out the contents and they made the drink. The wait for the table was terrible long in an empty restaurant. The wait for the food even longer to the point of frustration. The food made up for it.

Chinese Muur, Arnhem, Netherlands

This restaurant is as Chinese as KFC is Mexican Food. It was truly an Indonesian Dutch restaurant with Chinese art on the wall to make it seem like it is Chinese. If you eat here definitely get the raw fish and beef and have the chef prepare it. That was quite nice. Everything else was just ok. The food is buffet style but table service for drinks was slow and disorganized. This restaurant seems as though it specializes in groups. For that it was fine. It would get a 7.5 out of ten rating overall.

Jeanty's, Antwerp, Belgium

This restaurant did not get very high marks on the review sites. I had the osso bucco. It was very nicely done. The mussel bucket looked plentiful. The asparagus in season appeared delightful. I think where this restaurant fails is service. We waited a long long time for the food and servers were inattentive to our needs. It was also a bit pricey. I enjoyed the food.

Rustique Restaurant York, England

A very nice place to have dinner in York is Rustique. This French cuisine restaurant has both a fixed menu for a very reasonable price as well as an ala carte menu. The food was delicious but make sure you make reservations as this place is busy. The three course set menu was just perfect food without pretension.

Betty's, York, England

A great way to spend a late afternoon in York is by having high tea at Betty's. A silver tray of sandwiches, scones with butter and jam and topped with an array of pastry confections will definitely brighten even the rainiest afternoon. The tea was also amazing. Service was fast and friendly. The full menu had a wonderful array of sandwiches if you want something other than high tea. Next time I will try some of those.

Jus' Pound, Keaau, HI

It is difficult to take over a restaurant space where Verna's dominated for 25 years. The small shopping center across from Keaau Elementary is getting a much needed facelift. It's good news for the new restaurant, Jus' Pound, which opened 3 months ago. Lela and Val were charming and the food was fresh and delicious. It's the only place in Hilo to get a smoothie, and the best local food for miles. The food was plentiful, priced right and served with a smile. You have to try the fried Twinkie! It's deep fried cake with a cream filling. Not for anyone on the Atkin's Diet, that's for sure. Nice to have a new place to eat, and the outdoor tables are a plus on a nice day.
